Studies show that there is a direct correlation between good school attendance and student achievement. Therefore, we encourage you as parents to reinforce the importance of our students being at school each day. Attendance and tardies are monitored at the district level and letters will be generated if your child has excessive tardies or unexcused absences. The STI phone communication system will call parents according to the phone listing given on the students emergency contact card (Registration Card).

(If you wish to pick up homework for an absent child, please contact the teacher directly and please recognize that teachers will not be able to collect materials for your child during instructional hours.)

If a student is absent, the student must bring a written note from the parent or guardian upon returning. If the note is not received within three days of the child's return, the absence is considered unexcused. Schoolwork may only be made up with an excused absence. Absences that are unexcused will result in zeroes on school work. A child must be in school for at least half of the school day to be considered present.

The following reasons are considered acceptable explanations for student absences as recognized by the State Department of Education:

  1. Illness
  2. Death in the immediate family
  3. Inclement weather which would be dangerous to the life or health of the student if the student attended school
  4. Legal quarantine
  5. Emergency conditions as determined by the Superintendent or principal; or
  6. Permission of principal and consent of parent (pre-arranged absence).
